What is difference between Zazen and Mindfulness?

The crucial difference between zazen and mindfulness is whether or not there is a purpose. In the Soto sect, sitting is taught as “shikan taza”. This means sitting no purpose. Since you are just sitting, there is no desire for something like “I want to be like this” or “I want this to be like this.”

The article includes data examining the differences in household income and final educational background between those with meditation experience and those with no meditation experience (there doesn’t seem to be a huge difference), but it shows that the difference in zazen meditation in Buddhism is I don’t believe that merit means being able to earn more money than others or getting into a good university.

Perhaps this is what makes Buddhism so difficult to understand and practice. I believe that what Buddhism is aiming for is looking beyond the reach of general understanding. (I say yes, because I haven’t fully mastered it.) As you can see from Buddha’s life, he gave up his status as the next king and became a monk.

If enlightenment meant being superior to others, he would have seen the morning star and quickly returned to his castle. However, the reason why Buddha did not do this was because he did not find happiness in comparing himself to others and winning. There is no salvation in winning by comparing yourself to someone else. I think so too.

However, I feel that it does have the psychological effects mentioned in the article. Some people may be successful as a result. But that’s just a secondary thing. I think it’s important to have the mindset that it doesn’t matter whether you succeed or not. And in order to obtain this effect, the most important thing is to sit in a sitting posture. Just be there. No purpose whatsoever. That’s important. I think it probably won’t work. If you pretend that you don’t care either way on the surface, even though you just try to make money somehow in your heart.
